Unravel the plan to build a safe learning environment
Building a safe learning environment is one of the keys to help students achieve their academic goals. A place for learning should be safe and focused on optimising the maximum educational experience. The environment should be secured so that parents will be worry-free about the well-being of their children.
A safe learning environment does not mean locking the doors and setting up cameras all around the area; it should comprise safety both physically and strategically. To establish this kind of learning atmosphere, we recommend the following:
1. Create an inviting setup
Maintaining safety starts with the appearance of the place. Having the right place to stay at creates positive conversations where ideas are adequately expressed. The environment should also show both safety and creativity. Wallpaper can be designed based on the subject matters the children will be studying and values they may adopt. Another way to make the surrounding more inviting is by putting up personalised decorations and colourful adornments that can motivate every student to be more creative.
2. Maintain safety and security
Safety is the leading factor in building a safe learning environment. A place to study should be a place where both educators and students feel secure and respected as individuals. Physically, a learning environment should be safe for activities and other engaging types of participation. For younger children, it is advisable to use carpet or any soft flooring materials since they are all active toward physical activities. On the other hand, vinyl flooring or other textured flooring materials are more suited for older folks. Strategically, safety and security mean promoting opportunities and rewarding each student for a job well done. Everyone must learn a sense of belongingness so that they will be able to engage in the learning discourse truly.
3. Establish interaction
In every learning environment, it is vital that there is a space for physical movement and interaction. Learning should not be limited in the four corners of the classroom. There should also outside activities so that the learning is balanced. Create activities that can be done even in the outdoor decking of the room. If there is limited space, students can pull their desks to create a bigger space to do group activities. Doing this makes each student feel safe to ask questions and participate with everyone. It also teaches how to respect one another.
Learning in a safe environment empowers children to be more enthusiastic toward education. In building one, it is essential to know the needs of the whole establishment before planning. We, at Goodrich, can help provide specific needs of any environment and surrounding. We always try to tailor-fit the materials used on the requirements essential to a particular setting.
