Carpet flooring for a cosy and plush underfoot

Share

Modular carpet tiles, carpet rugs and wall-to-wall carpet, what and when to use them

There’s something about carpets, with their cozy-chic, plush underfoot feeling, that wood just can’t impart. And, while wood flooring remains a popular choice, carpet is making a comeback in a big and very stylish way.

Carpet tiles and rugs are fantastic ways of introducing color or pattern into any room. Using carpet flooring for interior design has always been a great tool for architects and designers. Interior designers are exploring new ways of using carpets as an interior design tool.

Carpets equipped with anti-microbial technology can be incorporated for added control against mold, mildew and bacteria. The added protection makes carpets great alternative flooring solutions in homes, healthcare, institutions, hospitality and commercial spaces.

Broadloom carpet Vs Modular

Broadloom carpet comes in big rolls and is installed over carpet padding. Modular carpet tiles function a little differently, as they come in smaller squares cut from wall-to-wall rolls which can be fitted together to make up a carpet.

The carpet installation is one of the biggest differences between broadloom and modular carpets. While broadloom comes in large rolls of carpet, modular carpet comes in smaller sections. As a result, modular carpet tiles can be installed piecemeal, allowing you to move furniture out of the way as you go rather than having to clear an entire room before beginning the process.

Another big difference is aesthetics. With modular carpet tiles, you have a lot more options when it comes to color, style, and patterns.

Anti-microbial carpet

Carpets and rugs can frequently be a source of unwanted bacteria and fungi as the latter can flourish in moist areas under soft flooring materials and create musty odours and eventually damage the carpets.

Benefits of Anti-microbial carpet

  • Prevents unwanted musty odours in carpets and rugs
  • Protects carpets from stains and discoloration against bacteria and fungi
  • Offers fresh and durable flooring solutions.

Use carpet tiles to mark distinct areas

Designers are adept at creating carpet tiles and shapes that are akin to pieces of abstract art for the floor, so if you want the floor to be the room’s main canvas, these make a strong statement. Downsize other decorative details if going down this route – interlocking patterns, stripes or edgy abstract graphics can hold a room on their own.

Turn the best carpet into a direct extension of the brand and product

In office design, a great way to use carpet customisation is by making a design that references the client’s brand or products. By doing so, the carpet becomes a facilitator for interior design.

Carpet rugs as art on the floor

Today the best carpets are patterned and they are gaining popularity in interior decorating, and moving into the living room and dining room, too. In the right hands, patterned carpet designs are akin to introducing a work of art into a room and setting a strong design tone. Think of the floor as the room’s main canvas.

Where a busy pattern on a wall might be overwhelming, introducing a pattern on the floor with a carpet rug can add interest without taking over the space.
